McBroom to Lead House Committee

Local lawmaker appointed ethics panel chair, caucus dean

State Rep. Ed McBroom has been appointed chair of the House Oversight and Ethics Committee and named House Republican Caucus dean for the 2015-16 legislative session.

The lawmaker also was assigned to serve on the Education, Energy Policy, and Natural Resources committees.

“It’s an honor to be selected to lead the state House’s efforts to maintain the integrity and transparency of state government, because that trust and responsibility is why Michigan residents put each of us on the job for them,” said McBroom, R-Vulcan. “My committee will work hard to review audits of the state bureaucracy and promote policy changes that will make government more transparent and responsive for all citizens.

“I’m also eager to begin work for my other three committee assignments, as each addresses issues vital to Michigan, and particularly the UP’s, future and opportunities.”

McBroom said he is especially proud to be selected by his House colleagues as the caucus dean. As dean, he has already chaired caucus leadership elections and is tasked with helping build mentoring relationships between veteran lawmakers and the many incoming freshman legislators.

During the remainder of his term in office, McBroom’s caucus dean position will see him serve as a resource and sounding board for both experienced representatives and new House members who are just learning the legislative procedures, as well as sharing his experience on how to best serve the residents back home. He also will lead a non-partisan, legislative Bible study group.

McBroom can be contacted toll free at 1-855-DIST-108; through his online office at; by e-mail,; or P.O. Box 30014, State Capitol, Lansing, MI 48909-7514.
